Hey chicken I don't know how much you know about motors. Closest I ever got to the inside of one myself was replacing a valve cover gasket on my 74 mustang 2 20 years ago. I do like to do general maint on my own though. This though would scare me into taking it to someone that knows exactly what to do to get it right. I'm new here but can already tell there are lots of those type people posting here. But getting the advice and getting it done right are 2 different things. I'd put it in the shop - but that's just me.

This just me, and I'm not married... buuutttt...if I were mad at my wife, why in the hell would I pour water in my boat engine? I mean, wouldn't that be like cutting off the hand to spite the fingers? If he poured water in the engine, there would be evidence of it. Maybe check the carb and see if there is any evidence of abnormal corrosion. If he put water in it and ran it, the oil would have water mixed in it (be a frothy light brown). Just some ideas.. someone else might know more...

Pouring water into the motor would cause a lot of problems. If he poured it down the intake then it could have flooded the cylinders. If he poured it into the oil fills on the valve covers it could have rusted or gummed up the lifters and rockers and everything else in the bottom of the motor.

I would take the spark plugs out and turn the motor over by hand a couple of times to see if there was water in the cylinders. Then spray some oil into the spark plug holes and turn it over a couple more times. Drain all the old motor oil out of the engine and refill. Unhook the coil wire and crank it over a couple of times to make sure it everthing is turning OK. Hook the coil wire back up and give it a try.

Good luck.

It all depends on how much water he pour in and wear he poured it in at and how long it stayed there. Find this out first before you do anything! It could be as simple as changing the oil to tearing down the engine.
