I just bought my first boat which came with a 1998 Gamefisher 9.9 hp motor. From what I can tell online everyone is saying Force made these motors Mercury bought out Force and Sears just re badged them as Gamefisher. Anyway I went hunting the other day and it started up one pull and ran great. After hunting I got ready to head back but couldn't get the pull start to work. From looking at it there is a lever that keeps the pull start from turning if I reach into the motor and manually unlock it it will start . I can't seem to find any adjustments or figure out why it keeps staying locked. I can't see anything that would move it out of the way. The part is called the stop-starter pulley interlock. I also noticed shifting has gotten a little harder not sure if that has something to do with it or not.I have attached the parts diagram. The part I am talking about is part number 1.
