I'm looking at a 98' striper with a 150 johnson. What's the thought on the motor? Are the Johnson 150 any good?

As long as it isn't a FICHT engine it was good when new. This is 11 years later.

I run it's bigger brother.

It's a good strong motor but very, very thristy when compared to todays standards. Or any other standard for that matter when fuel is $4 a gallon :D

I have a '98 Johnny 150V6 on my 21' DC SeaSwirl Striper. The motor has excellent power, but as noted sucks up (or down) some fuel. Top speed is a bit over 40MPH, with excellent out of the hole performance, with a 19" pitch Michigan Aluminum prop

I got rid of my 2000 model 150 ocean runner. Had a lot of issues and now don't trust the brand. I'm not knocking Johnson but I've always had yamahas. It would run fine when I put it in the water but after a couple hours of fishing it wouldn't stay cranked. I dumped over a grand into it and still didn't get it fixed. Now I've got a merc
