'98 Johnson 150HP has big smoke upon restart

My '98 Johnson 150 Ocean Runner smokes, stalls and seems to load up upon restarting after it sits for an hour or so.

Scenario: Cold start is good, FastStart system keeps motor running for nearly a minute, prior to idle down, and at that point it runs good with a normal amount of smoke. Drive to the beach, turn motor off wait an hour or two and then restart. Motor smokes like crazy, stalls a lot, won't idle. Once you get it reved up, it then runs fine and idles fine. Is it possible the fast start system needs to work upon restart, but doesn't?

QuikStart runs for 5 seconds every time you restart the engine. It cuts out automatically when the engine reaches 96 degrees or 1100 RPM, whichever comes first. If the engine has cooled, try to avoid using the warm up lever too much until the QuikStart cuts out.

You might want to do a thorough decarb on your engine, which should help with the smoke. Also check the 6 recirculation check valves.
