My tilt motor QUIT in the down position. I checked all electrical and ran 12 volts directly to the 2 tilt motor wires and nothing. I plan to replace the motor but have ran in to a few issues. Any body got ideas on how I can get the manuel release screw to turn, I can not get the motor up because the release screw will not move. I used a 24 inch brand new screwdriver with 2 guys on it and nothing, the screw head was a little chiped before I started but we can get on it pretty well. Can I heat this? With it on the boat? Do I need to remove the outboard to replace the tilt motor.

Re: 98 Johnson 225 tilt motor

Motor was up about 1/5 way so I was able to tap on the motor but only got it to buzz. I used a impact screwdriver but the head of the release screw just got worse. New motor was $200 and rebuilt trim tilt was $450 so I drilled a hole in the cylinder and took it out. New unit will be in tomorrow. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
