98 jonny 3.3

I have done a search but cant find my specific problem so I am starting this thread.

I bought a 3.3 direct drive Johnson of 1998 vintage yesterday but when I took it out today to test it, it conked out after 10 minutes and it now refuses to start.

I stripped and cleaned out the carb changed the plug for a new one but the engine only fires once then dies...Is this a dead power pack?The reason I ask is that there is a spark when I hold the plug against the head and crank the motor( a good strong spark) but I am not sure if you can get a spark on the outside of the motor but not on the inside?

Also I have tried some easy start and that normally starts engines even with totally knackered carbs so I am assuming this problem is electrical..

Have any of you guys had a similar problem with a wee Jonny and if you have how did you fix it..All advice is appreciated

Right fellas I have been at this engine all evening and the stubborn SOB will not go at all

There is a big blue spark, there is fuel getting to the carb and there is good compression 110 psi I am at my wits end with this.Is there anyone out there that has a clue as to why an engine that has the three essentials i.e fuel,spark and compression but still refuses to start

Thanks for the reply but that is mainly for electric start motors my 3.3 is a pull start.... still

Read it again, boot. It is for any 2 stroke outboard.

Sorry JB I should have read all of the post buddy.I will go through your flow chart today and see if I can get this motor to fire up.Thanks for the reply mate.
