I have done a search but cant find my specific problem so I am starting this thread.

I bought a 3.3 direct drive Johnson of 1998 vintage yesterday but when I took it out today to test it, it conked out after 10 minutes and it now refuses to start.

I stripped and cleaned out the carb changed the plug for a new one but the engine only fires once then dies...Is this a dead power pack? The reason I ask is that there is a spark when I hold the plug against the head and crank the motor( a good strong spark) but I am not sure if you can get a spark on the outside of the motor but not on the inside?

Also I have tried some easy start and that normally starts engines even with totally knackered carbs so I am assuming this problem is electrical..

Have any of you guys had a similar problem with a wee Jonny and if you have how did you fix it..All advice is appreciated

Re: 98 jonny 3.3

Right fellas I have been at this engine all evening and the stubborn SOB will not go at all:(

There is a big blue spark, there is fuel getting to the carb and there is good compression 110 psi  I am at my wits end with this.Is there anyone out there that has a clue as to why an engine that has the three essentials i.e fuel, spark and compression but still refuses to start:mad:

Please help...LLB (grovelling smiley)

Read it again, boot. It is for any 2 stroke outboard.
