I just joined Iboats, great site. I have a 98 Nissan 30hp outboard. I have rebuilt the carb with nissan carb kit, cleaned the carb, I have good prime on the fuel bulb, the float is sealing good; everything I know to do in the process of elimination. My problem is when i choke it and pull start it once or twice then push the choke back in a little gas runs out of the carb so when the boat is on the trailer at the house it will idle and run at any rpm all day long. When I get it to the boat ramp, I back it into the water and it floods its self out. With the angle of the boat ramp I think the access fuel in the carb is running into the moter whereas when its on the trailer at the house the fuel cant run back in the carb because its on level ground with moter tilted up slightly. At the ramp it will idle for a short amount of time (5 to 10 sec) and then die and will not start again. So I choke it and pull start it once or twice, nothing happens then I push the choke back in once again it leeks a little gas then I pull start it again with choke off and it runs till it dies again 5 to ten sec. PLEASE HELP

Sounds like the problem is in the carb. Look at the manual and set everything exactly like it tells you to.

If you have replaced all carb parts with a new kit, probably float arm angle is out of correct level, check...

Re: 98 nissan carb problems PLEASE HELP

Well I got it running and off the trailer, had to dial the fuel set screw out to 4 turns. ran for about 30 min at various rpms then it would start dieing when I would get into the throttle so I played with the fuel set screw 1/4 turn at a time for a while on the water no improvement. The float arm is at the correct angle. The carb is still leeking fuel after I choke the motor but I get good firm pressure in the fuel bulb. Could my fuel set screw and or were it sits be damaged? And I bought the moter used ran fine but no manual.

If the carb is leaking, it needs more attention. That may be your whole problem. The Factory service manual for your motor is Part # 003-21035-1 $44.17.
