I have a 1998 Sundancer 7.4L that occasionally has the alarm go off after the engine is running. It starts normally, with the alarm sounding as it is supposed to, then the alarm shuts off as it is supposed to. Then a few seconds later (sometimes, not all the time) the alarm sounds again and will not shut off until I shut the engine down.

It will sometimes do the same thing when it is re-started, sometimes not.

I have checked the guages for the temp and the oil pressure . They seem to be working fine. The oil level is up to where it is supposed to be and clean. And I have checked the Prower Trim Pump reservoir. It was about 3/8" to 1/2" low, so I added oil to bring it up to the bottom of the fller neck as specified in the manual.

After doing this it started up fine, normal. We went out on the lake maybe a 1/2 mile at the most and shut it down. We were drifting, so I started the boat and went to move it, and the alarm went off again. I checked the guages, all fine, shut it down waited a minute and started it again, the alarm went off again and would not shut off without stopping the engine.

I waited a few minutes and started it again, this time I happened to wiggle the bilge blower rocker switch as I turned the blower off and the shrill alarm stopped.

Does anyone know if this switch may be shrting out and possible cause the alarm to sound when it is not supposed to?

Also, a week or so ago, the day before this first happened the out drive was submerged in very soft mud for a few seconds. I had shut the engine down immediately, and raised the outdrive with the trailer switch to clean the mud out of the end of the prop, by hand. It came out very easily and when lowered back down into fresh water, everything ran fine. We drove the boat for several miles that day and the next and everything was normal.

Does anyone know how to fix this? I have read on some of the forums for newer Sea Rays that there is a plunger sensor in the reservoir for the power trim pump that sometimes gets stuck or fails and causes the alarm to go off when it is not supposed to
