When I bought this boat a couple weeks ago, I noticed the sundeck struts lying in the engine compartment. Closer inspection reveals a lot of dry rot in the wood sundeck on the sides especially. I'm going to rebuild the wood part this weekend and reuse the marine vinyl that is in good shape. I'm going to use a standard exterior sheathing plywood that I will seal with thompson's water seal. I can't use PT wood since the monel staples I bought say not to be used with PT wood. This sundeck really isn't exposed to that much water and is original, I just think that in the 14 years, the wood has worn out. I've already purchased new 20 inch, 90 lb struts at Oreilly's as mine were bent. The staples should be here Saturday morning as well. I plan on using gorilla wood glue and SS screws wherever the wood is screwed together and am going to bolt the strut brackets instead of screwing them to the wood as through bolts will be stronger. Does this seem like a sound approach or what should/could I be doing differently? Instead of just stapling the vinyl to the wood, I was also planning on using some adhesive as well as stapling.

Got it all done on this weekend and put all back together. Used the formula that was PM'd to me in place of thompson's water seal and let it sit overnight. Fits like a glove and now my struts work fine and the top is a LOT more solid than it was.
