What would you look for if you were purchasing a 9 year old engine with less then 50 hours? Obviously it has sat idle for long periods of time. Would a compression test show any internal damage (rust)? Beside a compression test any other tests to perform?

Check the gearlube and plan on changing it. You should also replace the water pump impeller. Knowing the size might help us fine-tune suggestions. Low hours often means little maintenance. It could need a carb rebuild if the gas was allowed to go stale between uses.
