Lower unit is leaking lubricant thru exhaust port. I have ordered a manual today but would like to remove lower unit this w/e. In the past I have dropped lower units on I/O. I just want to be sure if I start prior to receiving the manual I don't foul something up. I would assume if everything is unbolted the lower unit should drop easily. I have seen several articles that mention disconnecting gear linkage. Where is this located. Also would assume the bolts to be removed would be the 2 located on either side as well as the 2 located above the prop. Any help would be appreciated. Boating season is short in Ohio compared to below Myrtle Beach so I want to get going. Is there a specific gear the motor should be engaged before dropping?

Thanks Elcid

elcid,

You'll need to disconnect the gear linkage first. You will see a rod protruding up from the lower cowl pan just below and behind the lower carburetor. That's the linkage, a real bugger to get to.

It helps if it is in reverse.

Otherwise, you've got it.
