99 25hp Merc cylinders chrome-plated?

Can anyone tell me if the cylinders are chrome-plated on this motor? Wondering if I should send this motor packing or have the cylinders rebored. Compression problems dictate one or the other, as a new power head will cost 1500.00(dealer quote). Ser# is OG766818. My understanding is that any number over OG202750 is Mercosil and can be bored. Thanks in advance for any help on this.<br />Lucky

Lucky, if you are correct on the serial# it is non chrome and can be bored .030" oversize...just did one today...before you drop it off somewhere ask them if they can bore a 2.5" blind hole...alot of places cant.

Thanks ODDD1 The ser# is correct. Now I can go on and get it bored. I believe I know of a spot that can do it. If not how much to ship the block to Fon du lac.<br />Lucky
