Hi guys... thanks for the advice / help...1999 Sea Ray 18' engine ran perfect last fall. Was winterized with 1/4 tank of gas (I asked marina to fill it but they "forgot"). Couple weeks ago I summerized it with new plugs, oil change, filter, gear oil change, impeller. Started up instantly on the hose. Filled it up with 93 gas and some stabil 360 for the gas.
Ran rough for 3 to 4 hours over a couple days at low speed / idle but fine anywhere higher. No inline fuel filter so I decided to check fuel pump filter. Dumped it (couldn't tell how much water there was if at all) and replaced filter / gasket. Marina gave me some thick "water - zorb" stuff to try as well. Fill up again and it ran better but every once in awhile I would get a quick little drop in RPM when cruising. Kinda felt like prop ventilation. Drained pump filter again but the intermittent little drops while cruising and occasional rough idle continued. I figured it was just the last of the condensation working through and hoped after 3 or 4 tanks we'd be good. But it seemed to be getting worse.
So yesterday I was filling up from about 1/3 tank and I noticed it kept turning off the pump like if was full. I had used this same pump earlier in the week and that didn't happen. Added a little more of the absorb stuff and some stabil. We took off and it died right away. Anchored up and pulled up the forum to go through a bunch of checks. Tried with gas cap open, took off pick up line and made sure anti siphon ball was loose, double checked fuel filter for proper reinstall. No luck.
Im wondering if that thick water aborb stuff may have gummed up my carb and I was thinking about pulling it for a good cleaning but before I did, just wanted to see if there is anything else I can check. thanks again!
