Re: '99 5.0 gl oil level increase in crankcase
That much fuel into the crankcase has to be from a bad carb leak, such as powervalve ruptured or wrong vacuum rating, or from a mechanical fuel pump rupturing and shoving streams of fuel into the crankcase. I do not know what type of fuel pump you have, electric or mechanical, I just put that possible cause out there in case it may apply to your situation.
In either case the engine has to have been running in order for the carb to leak that much.
- A mechanical fuel pump would only "leak" when the engine is running, no way for it to build pressure and keep fillling the leaking carb unless the engine is actually turning.
- An electric fuel pump should be wired to where it does not run if the engine is not running, so no way for it to build pressure and keep filling the leaking carb.
If it is an internal carb leak then you WILL have starting and driveabiltity issues due to the intake being flooded with fuel.
If you have a mechanical pump then you WILL have fuel in the clear tube that runs from the fuel pump to the carb or flame arrestor.
I am a little confused on the sequence of events since the carb was rebuilt. This statement "Have not had boat underway since carb rebuild" seems juxtaposed to this statement "Had 2 barrel holly rebuilt, eng. runs well but high oil level has returned w/fuel dilution." Can you clarify how many times the engine was run after the carb rebuild.
