99' 70 hp Johnson tilt/trim reservoir leak

I just picked up a 99 70hp and was told it had tilt trim issues. I see that the reservoir is leaking where it connects to the housing. I took it off and see that there is no seal in it. Other than buying a new one is there any suggestions? I was thinking of cleaning the surface and apply a bead of gasket maker around it.
