I am considering buying a 99 charger that has a blown head gasket with the intent to repair myself and have a good boat for not too much money. My question is how involved or what problems might i run into going into this. I am a decent mechanic....by that i mean i have rebuilt several motors in vehicles like a 99 mustang gt from the block up, a 94 lt1 z28 camaro and some other random stuff so i reckon i can handle the job, im just kinda new to the outboard spectrum and I just need some experinced insight into the situation before i open a can of worms. Im curious about part average part cost and time involed.

thanks in advance for your time

Nice boat. Charger has a special place in my heart;)Got any pics?

Anyway changing the head gasket is the same as on an automotive engine. Just make sure all the old gasket is scraped off and torque all bolts properly. For the gasket I've seen a silicon gasket used that comes out of a tube. Should be pretty cheap but not sure if it or a traditional style gasket is better. For a traditional gasket you're looking at around $30-40 bones iirc.
