I have a 99 evinrude ficht 225 that wont make full rpm. the motor sounds and feels like it is running fine, but wont rev past 34/3500 rpm. i have recently cleaned all the fuel injectors, replaced filters and fuel lines. it was running rough and would not idle consistently before i cleaned the injectors, that has fixed that issue. could it not me making full rpm because of an ecm or emm issue?

More likely a cylinder or two not working properly, or lack of fuel (low pressure).
Do a compression test.
Hook to a comp and do a 'drop-cylinder' test.

what is the benefit of hooking to a computer for a drop cylinder test? isn't the idea behind this to find if a particular cylinder is not firing based on rpm fluctuation?

Re: 99 evinrude ficth 225 rpm issue

Those engines are a bit tricky on idle.To keep the idle rpm it deliberately 'drops' a cylinder at random now and then. However if putting it on light load just above idle and running a drop-cylinder test, it is much easier to see if it is a particular cylinder missing. You may have all cylinders 'working' when running a static ignition and injector test, but they may not necessarily work when engine is running. If compression is even and ok, you may eliminate a piston/cylinder damage as the most likely cause.

compression good on all cylinders, #1 cylinder not firing but has spark. bad injector?

If no failure code: open circuit, most likely. Do a static injector test from the diagnostic program.
