I have weird problems with the instrument panel on my '99 Jeep Cherokee Sport. My "airbag" light will come on while I'm driving, accompanied by the failure of different instruments-- sometimes it's just the speedo and tach, sometimes it's all instruments. Each time it only lasts for a couple minutes and everything starts to work again. This can happen 2 or 3 times in a 25 minute commute to work, or not for a week at a time.

This intermittent problem has been going on for about a year now. Haven't dealt with it because it never lasts long, but it seems like it's happening more often recently. Anyone got any idea what could be failing-- computer module, wiring short, etc..?

Hi
I've heard of Wranglers (TJ) had the same problem with the connector on the
back of instrument panel. But if you did a search on some of the Jeep forums
You most likely will find the right answers.

A little search and I found this

Try going over a few bumps (enough to jar it) and see if it causes the dash to weird out. If so, I'd vote the connector in the back of it as well. Otherwise I'm at a loss. New cars = mysterious magical beasts to me.
