Is 160f too hot on top cyl.( 157f mid and bottom cyl.) after getting up to cruising speeds on this engine ?? ( I just got an infrared temp. gun to read it) I have a problem where it wont re-start until a 20 minute cool-off period, then it re-starts with no problem. Does this sound like a new impeller is nedded ?? (it puts out a good pee stream )

If its quitting and not restarting you may have ignition problems.
Sounds ok to me.Water should not sizzle when sprinkled on the head.
Also it should be too hot to hold your hand on but not so hot it burns you.
If you don't know the age of the impeller you should replace it.

The mtr should not exceed 160* at 5000 rpm. Your starting problem could be an ignition problem. Get an open air gap spark tester and check the spark when it quits. Should jump a a min of a 7/16 " open air gap when cranking. If you haven't serviced your water pump it would be a good idea to do so.

This motor consistently wont restart after getting up to oper.temp, until you let it cool for approx. 20 minutes, like it has no spark. Once the cool-down period has passed, it fires right up with no hesitation and then runs like a swiss watch, won't cut off by itself.

that really sounds like something is expanding when it gets warm and grounding out. Happens to coils when they get old and start to delaminate. When things cool down and whatever is expanding contracts, connections are made and components stop grounding out. Look to your ignition components for your problem.

That's the reason you trouble shoot when the problem occurs. The probs are easy to find at that time.
