99 johnson ocean pro 150 hot telltale

hi guys i just bought a boat with the '99 150 oceanpro on it and i used it yesterday for a couple of hours and it seemed fine but when i was washing it out at home i ran it for about 2 mins with the muffs on and put my hand in the pisser and it was really hot(almost boiling) but comming out strong there was no alarm but this didnt seem normal to me...can anyone help out?...surely this isnt normal?

the thermostat opens and closes the keep the engine at the correct temperture, the tale tell is only an indicator that the water pump is pumping water. the temp of the tale tell does change as the stat open and close.

Welcome to iboats.

I would check the t stat to be sure that it is in fact opening as it should. If it is stuck shut, the cooling water circulating in the powerhead will heat above the specified value (145F) that the t stat is suppose to open at, thus sending super heated water out of the tell tale. The tstat is suppose to constantly monitor the temp and open and close as necessary to maintain that proper temp.

If in fact there is an issue there, I would test the alarms to be sure that they are functioning as they should.

you also have 2 tstats one on the upper portion of each head.
