A Boat For Christmas?

I was just wondering yesterday if anyone has ever bought a power boat for Christmas? A lot of things are advertised on that can be bought for Christmas, but what about a nice new (or used) boat?

We remember when we bought a 1989 16' Invader Bowrider for Christmas back in 2005. We bought it right before Christmas and put two Christmas bows on the windshield and took a photo of it sitting in our garage.

Sure was a nice Christmas gift for us!

Sure sounds like a great idea, but much easier to do in Florida than up here around the Great Lakes!
All boats around here are shrink wrapped or tarped right now - and as for taking a test ride ...

Re: A Boat For Christmas?

I have bought several boats in October, so the factory can build them and ship them before the snow flies. Then, I got all Winter to rig them so I'm ready for next May. I would hate to trail them home when there was salt on the road!

My favorite time to buy a new car is on Christmas eve day. The salemen are anxious to go home and the manager is easier to work with - I have found several real hot deals on that day.

This year I was surprized to find an outboard motor under my tree on Christmas morning. My wife and son did some dickering the week before.

I'm actually in that process and it's what brought me too this site. Having grown up on a lake shore property WI early 50's I have that need to get back On the water, and yank my new grandson 8-27 around in a couple yrs for summer fun & fishin' his dad runs a hatchery.

When I was 11 years old, Santa brought me a brand new 9HP McCulloch outboard and a 12' Crestliner aluminum boat. It was my best Christmas ever. Every day after school and before my parents got home from work, I would fill the laundry tub in the basement and fire up the motor while waiting for the first spring day that I could actually get it out on the water. For years after the house stunk of 2 stroke oil.

I still have the motor after 44 years and it looks like the day I found it under the tree. Years later I found the receipts for it. The motor was $270 and the boat $92, brand new.

2 years ago I had a sunfish sailboat on a trailer for sale on C/L for the smokin deal price of $500... a nice gal bought it for her husband and she picked it up on Christmas eve so she could hide it in the back yard for Christmas morning..... The next day she called me and said he was thrilled... then he got on the phone and thanked me for helping her... I think I enjoyed the whole deal almost as much as they did!

We now have a '92 Celebrity 200 Cuddy Cabin that is in the shop for Trim Position Switch repair and outdrive/engine check-over. The labor/parts cost of that will be one of our Christmas presents this year.

Yup. 2009. Had been negotiating purchase of my Chris*Craft 24' express, and didn't tell Linda that the broker had accepted my offer (pending spring survey and trial, of course). A week before Christmas I dropped off the deposit on my lunch hour, in the middle of a snowstorm.

On Christmas Day I gave her a picture of the boat and a 'Chris*Craft' boating cap. It was the most sucessful surprise gift I gave her in 30+ years.
