Guys,

This is a carboat that used to be a Renault Laguna that was a project to raise money for Help for Heroes [for wounded British soldiers coming back from Afghanistan]. I'd like to thank some of the members here for their help in answering some questions about specifications and outboards:) Cheers guys

On the Friday 30th October 2009 we're planning to take her from Donaghadee [NI] to Port Patrick [Scotland] we've registered it with the Guinness book of Records as 'The fastest amphibious crossing of the Irish Sea' - it's about 30km

Not sure if I can post links to the videos here although I'm not advertising or selling anything so I think it's ok and just of general interest to members who will no doubt find it hilarious - they are well worth a watch!!

Sea Trial (round the harbour) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87lHnkRQ_Fk

Please comment on our chances of the 30km trip and any advice you might have after watching the videos:)

Loved the video, the most entertaining I have seen in a long time. That is a major endeavor for a very good cause. My only thought while watching both videos was a good high capacity bilge pump or two might be a very good addition to the craft. If it get rough bailing could become an issue. Thanks for this post and please keep us updated on the fantastic fund raiser. Well done to the crew and support team.

thanks HP - we have a 1750 capacity bilge pump fitted after one of the guys in this forum suggested it - problem is the battery - we can't run the car in the water and therefore she does run down. We're taking 3 batteries with us on our 30km run to give us a little more running time:)

Cheers for your very positive comments and I'm so glad you enjoyed the video - if you can perhaps you could email your mates regarding the project and make them aware of the video to?

Cheers

Maybe make your stem "wedge" higher and flared out to help push the seas away from the hood. More floatation forward would probably help too.

Good luck!

Cheers mike - I assume by all the posting and no telling off that it's ok to post our just giving link - if a moderator doesn't like it just delete this post - and I apologise for your trouble. We're not making any money and we're not advertising anything he pleads:rolleyes: and it's all for a great cause...

EDIT Link to site removed. Sorry. Soliciting is not allowed.

Trying to remember what the board was on the front off a APC you flipped up when you needed to ford a river or lake, tiller board/fording board?
forced the water under the machine so you didnt do a nose in.

RBH - intertesting idea but unfortunately our nose is secure - we're planning to try to sit further back in the boat which might solve the problem:)
