Ok. Two questions here. The first is this, and I'm sorry to be explaining it all rather than sending a simple picture, but I just haven't gotten that far.
I'm restoring a 16' I/O Mark Twain. If you want to see a picture, it's a 1968 and you can view it on marktwainboats.com The boat was the same for 67-69. Anyway, I have really shallow gunwales, the gas tank is under the closed hull, and I've put 2 seats in front with one in back-all swivel seating. What I'm left with, and I guess it was always this way, is that there's absolutely no storage at all. I didn't want to go under the floor with it, although I'm wishing now that I had. I'm afraid that if I build something that goes up the side(s), it's going to take too much space. Where do you store fishing poles and such, though?
The second question is probably simpler. We're reupholstering everything. The throttle control is mounted to it's own small, triangular panel and then fits into some side covers that have always covered the gunwales. I can't get that throttle control to separate so that I can reupholster. I removed every bolt I could see, without results. Anyone know what I'm missing here?
Thanks in advance. -James

Hummm should know what type of controller it is, went thru this in a way with my Quicksilver control . had to pull of the lever then a trim plate .. bolts under that. Did I mention that the friction and detent adjustments were there too, thats what I could not find. SOMEONE at the factory, or marina, FORGOT to drill the adjustment holes tru the fiberglass. Man that had me stumped for 2 years !!

Re: A couple of questions for you engineers

I don't have 2 years. The control is all for a 160 hp mercruiser engine. It's just the forward/reverse throttle control thingy-my terminology isn't all there yet. Everything else has been original, so I'd have to assume that that is, as well. What it is is the silver handle on one side of the vinyl, then vinyl, wood backing, and a black control box on the inside. There are w cables running into that control box, and the whole panel mounts to the right of the driver's seat.

My controller was installed simularly...I had to remove the handle to get to the mounting screws beneath it. Just an idea.

-JustMrWill

Tried that, MrWill. No luck with that one. I did get in there, and there was a screw, but I still can't take the two sides apart. I even tried to pry them apart, and they's stuck!

I think you understand. And by your profile, and name, you would know. I'll go home and do that today. If it doesn't work, I'll let you know. Thanks.

Re: A couple of questions for you engineers

For your rod storage question, I fabbed some brackets that are completely removable and rivetted a pair of those plastic/foam rod holders ( holds 4 rods only) to the brackets....They mount to the gunnel so that the rods are on the outside of the boat....A couple s.s latches secures them in place....I have only a 14' boat and it works great....I don't use docks for my needs, but if you do, just make sure to remove them before tying up to a dock or similar...I have gained much needed room and now I can't step on them...
