A follow-up on my 1970, 35HP Chrysler?s Magneto System.

1. I ran the motor hard for 10?15 miles (between 2 fishing holes) in about 80 degree weather and checked for blow-by afterwards.

2. I d/n see any sign of blow-by which means the last signs could have been an over oiled cam wick.

3. The 2010 pre summer check-up was the first and only signs of blow-by I have seen. Att will show 07, 09's bad look and today, nor can I find 09's post.

4. Question! With time (in TX?s 100 degrees summers) should I expect some blow-by to affect points?

5. The Monster did as good as it did when I got it in 1985. It Burst, Planned and held a WOT w/o backing off (about 30 MPH).

6. I went in to look for signs of blow-by vs wanting to make any adjustments.

This is one of the areas you shouldn't have blow-by.If it did it would start running REAL bad.Not only blowing air but sucking air too.
You probably have too much oil on the wicks.
If it's running good DON"T touch anything.
You start messing with the points it might not ever run right again.Unless you can set them.J

I have replaced the points and condensers once since 1985 (w/o a problem) when the points were pitted vs dirty. Cleaning is my routine if points are not pitted.

1. I dress the dirty points with a point file w/o adjusting (but check .020), usually when the engine gets sluggish).

2. I was suspicious of blow-by contributing to my dirty points. I?m sure dirty points are normal (from 60s-70s car and etc repairs)??

3. I also noticed yesterday it?s a good size opening between the distributor plate and flywheel that vapor or etc from the motor could enter through.

4. I was almost glad to see the opening to verify my puller?s bolts are deep enough but not too deep tp damage a coil.
