That's a bad deal for sure, but you would have thought he would have been wearing some type of breathing device.

... and he fell forward into a waste-high vat of sulfuric acid and drowned to death just before 1:45 a.m....

Ummm... Is there anything left above the waist?

And did anyone notice the rather iroic and inappropriate mis-use of the word "waist" as they used it in " a waste-high vat". ?

Yeeecchhhh!

It might have kept him catching a bunch of fumes and passing out.
Officials believe fumes from the various chemicals used at the Costal Circuits Factory where Fernando Jimenez Gonzalez was working overwhelmed Gonzalez

"The other worker at the factory was not injured, Dowden said."

Just how big is this "factory" with 2 workers?

his father was the one who found him.

My question, why are they still using acid to etch circuit boards?! There are 2 better, fully automated processes, one of them I gurantee doesn't use any kind of acid. Just not 100% sure on the other process available. It's quicker, cleaner, better for the environment and the people working in those places.

It's really not cheaper when you factor in the cost of buying the chemicals and then properly disposing of them. They all have a shelf life and when you're running large batches through, that shelf life shortens quite a bit. If I remember correctly, $100,000 is enough to have a nice automated system in place. Factor in the extra insurance the company probably needs to have with having all those chemicals around and especially for chance incidents like this, and $100k isn't all that much.

But like everything, any penny spent that affects your bottom line is, well a penny you didn't need to spend.

Sulfuric acid is bad news. I think the stupid media got it wrong, he needed a respirator, not a face mask.

A family friend was involved with a runaway reaction due to a failed themometer. The explosion slightly scared his face and he lost his eye. However, the explosion caused a shockwave that knocked two other guys into large vats of acid. All they found was the rings.

Gross, it almost belies the question of whether it's worse to go by drowning in a vat of acid or by falling into a cesspool. :p
