any ideas what would be a good product to seal this with.

img1193.jpg

this is on my aristocraft. it has a verticaly slideing center panal window. it slides down into a pocket under the bow. i've been havein problems with finding water in my bow area. i thought it was the drain tube comeing from the pocket leading out the front of the boat. i don't think it is that now. i think it's that funny lookin glass job in the pic by the water stain. the tube in the upper right of the pic is in the center of the pocket. the camrea is lookin backwards from the ft. what ever i do is gonna be missearable to do as i could hardly get the camrea up there to take a pic. i can feel it. but have to use a mirror to see it. ya can see i've be at the drain tube and a non removable cap thats at the bottom of the pocket with my silicon. but i don't think that'd be good stuff to use for where i now think it's leaking....any ideas?

ziggy, give use a shot of the top side where you think it's leaking. we can see where it's going, but where is it coming from. by the way the boat really looks nice if you like green. had a 71 ford torino that color.

Re: a leak

Reach Up in there,+ Put a piece of Duct Tape over it,........
Then pour some Resin on the Top,+ Let it run down into it,+ Fill the Hole......

tashasdaddy, these pics are from the ft. looking back. these are the best two i got. this pocket runs pretty parallel to the deck. when the window is retracted, it literlally bends the window to slide into it's pocket. the pics are of the bottom of the ft. of the pocet. don't know what the black thing is. the tube runs from the bottom of the ft. of the poctet to exiting out a hole in the bow of the boat just below the bow eye. it's in a real hard place to see sorry about the poor pics. best i have on hand w/o goin and trying again. i think ya can see the defect just under the shadow of the drain tube in this pic.

snicker, is that a nice way of sayin yer favorit color aint green.... that's alright. it'd probalby not be my first pic in colors either. all i can say is it's a fun color and boating is supposed to be fun i guess. i kinda grows on ya when yer onboard. but.... think i'd pic blue if i had my choice. guess they came in green, red, blue, yellow, orange, tan, brown. i've not see any other green ones. plenty of blue and red and tan or brown. havn't seen any pics of orange or yellow.....

some Resin
epoxy resin? resin only w/o hardener? if i used resin. any chance ya can use a brush to apply it? thanks for the help guys. i appreciate the comments.....

Re: a leak

Epoxy resin can be applied with a brush AFTER the hardener has been mixed in. You will only have a few minutes (maybe 5) to apply the resin with the brush.

Is the area dry now? If you can reach it rough it up a bit with course sand paper (40-60 grit). You can make a big patch and lay a sheet of saran wrap over the repair then tape the saran wrap until it dries.

I can only imagine that you probably have very limited space to work. Wear cheap rubber gloves this is going to be messy to repair. Fiberglass epoxy resin is talented stuff and will stick to EVERYTHING!!

I would also suspect that whetever that black piece is is probably no longer sealed properly either. It looks like silicone and that never lasts when attachet to fiberglass.

Just an additional thought...... Get some 3m 5200 and squirt it onto a piece of saran wrap like you are coating a tire patch.... place that whole patch device onto your leak and press the 5200 into the voids.... I would also patch that black thing too. 5200 WILL adhere to saran wrap .... after it is dry pull off the loose pieces and do it again if needed. 5200 takes a long time to dry (24 hours or more) when applied like that.
