I have a 1998 mercuries 350 EFI MPI
Engine Serial OL067176
Sterndrive OL153367

I have installed two batteries using a blue sea ACR and switch (position Off, one and combined). I have the house hooked to the deep cell battery (numb. 2) and I have a starting battery hooked up to crank the boat (numb. 1).

assuming I have done everything correctly, my first question is as follow:

1) why does the stereo cut off for a few seconds when I turn the ignition key to start the boat?

to elaborate more, there are 3 wires hooked up to the starter. I have only the largest wire going to the switch number "one" post. the other two wires (red size 8 and yellow/red stripe) go to the breaker.

2) should I have spliced the red and yellow/red stripe wire from (starter to the breaker) and hook them up to the switch number "two" post?

3) Am I over thinking it?

any help will be greatly appreciated

This should explain why it's happening.

That is fine, don't mess with any wires on the starter.

NO!

3) Am I over thinking it?

Hard to say, but you are thinking about it wrong.

Assuming you are using the add-a-battery ACR, just come from the center isolation terminal of the ACR with a 16ga. wire with a 2A fuse and hook it to the slave starter solenoid. The large terminal with the yellow red wire on it. (B in the drawing below)

I ran the 16ga wire from the SI terminal to the yellow/red stripe located at the engine start switch. is that ok?
