We were out yesterday in the water and for the first time, my wife drove the boat (uh oh)! My friend and I were tubing as he fell off then I fell of, but then even worse... I was touching and standing in 3 feet of water while I watched my boat continue in. Yep... she smoked my 4 blade prop. My prop number is E4x14.25x19P on a 1996 Sylvan V196 with the Mercruiser 4.3 LX Gen+ with the Alpha One Drive. I have a back up prop but it is a 3 blade with the same pitch. My dilemma is choosing the right pitch. I would like to get out the hole quickers but also plane faster. I usually have about 6 people on board totalling maybe 900 pounds, but i almosy have to have the hydrafoil on it to get it to plane so I can see over the hull. Would decreasing the pitch make me plane faster and would I lose speed on the water?

trim tabs help a lot for planing faster, way better than dropping a pitch if your RPMs are in the right zone.
