A new boat that actually seems worth the money...

Every month when I peruse the pages of that worthless rag Boating Magazine, I look at all the new boats being "reviewed" (hah!) there and usually when I see the prices I'm like OMG  Granted there is usually a Stingray ad which lists prices and those boats are very fairly priced I think but they also don't look like anything to write home about. This month there is an ad for, and a review of the Chaparral H20 19 Ski & Fish and man does that look like a super nice boat for the price-as-tested of around $24k. It's got a 4.3 (granted it's carbed which I would never buy in a brand new boat, I don't see how much the MPI upgrade is), a full fiberglass liner, looks like lots of freeboard, real sturdy looking upholstery, nice striping, nice fishing features, and a powder coated trailer with a swing-away tongue.

Like I said, it struck me as a heck of a nice boat for the money and if I was looking to finance a new boat, it would definitely be on my short list.

EZ - A glasser I could almost understand, but you and an I/O. What's the world coming to.

On the flip side - The "no haggle pricing". I walked out of Saturn dealers a few times because of that and GM has killed them too. With the boat show season coming up, I wonder if there will any deals on these? Looks like a nice package.

Of all the features that make that boat enticing, the one that novices will not recognize as important beyond belief is the full fiberglass liner.

I pray these novices can afford a cover and ten minutes of their lives to cover it when done, and it should last them a darn long time. That boat is a winner. Reminds me of many boats from the 70's, when times were tough and simple boats kept basic workers boating ...but it's ready for the long haul.

:)

I agree. That's one of the things that really caught my eye.

We need people to buy new boats, so that in 10-15 years there will be a good supply of used boats. Since so few new boats have been sold in the past 5 years, there will probably be a shortage of decent second hand boats in about 5-7 years.

I just configured the H20 19 with a few essentials (and there is prep & destination charges) - comes up to $27,150 or about $1,428 per foot. Not too bad.
