a newbie i feel stupid question

I just bought a boat, motor and trailer. It has a 1984 Mariner 9.9. I'd like to change the spark plug but can't figure out how to get the cover off.

On the back of the motor where the motor sits when you lay it down on the floor, there will be a lever on the metal ridge just under the hood. Flip that down and tilt the hood up and forward and it'll come off. You'll need two sparkplugs.
