Well, I just recently acquired a 1965 Yachtwin on a trade, so today, I tackled the ignition system on it and royally cleaned it up. I even pulled the transom clamp assembly all apart and cleaned out all the old grease and packed it with new. Once I got it back together, it fired right up. I have the lower unit off, so I can replace the impeller.

Oh cool. The good ole' friend I got this little gem from. :D Cool to see ya here Ray.

Yep, this turned out to be a good little motor. It's in as good of mechanical shape as the '57 J dubb too. I'll give that one the once over too, but didn't have enough time and energy to get it done today. I think it'll turn out as nice though. It's an awesome little motor. It's funny looking at these little 3hp motors and seeing what a tiny little engine block they have and how something this petite can stay strong for so many years. Well, I do have a motor that's even smaller, that's been around 71 years now and I'm about ready to apply a nice new coat of paint on it and get it back together. More on that one later........
I'll have the '57 J dubb all nice and cleaned up real soon too. I like those little guys. My favorite years. :D

The 57 J was a dream troller motor. Never heard a motor idle down so low and smooth and stay that way for hours. Im hoping the 5.5 works out well. I should be on the water within 2 weeks once I get the 80 wired up. I have gone threw both motors now so my chances of a firey death are high. ;) Good job on gettin the yaht running. Seems those coils are always the one issue.

Yea, I'm willin' to bet the old JW had good care in it's life, to be able to run that good, but when I get done with it, it'll be the best it's been in years.

Yea, I found a good source on those coils, through the AOMCI for about half what I spent locally. I got four of the for $63, so getting these two motors back to life will be a bit cheaper than I had thought.

Well, just a little update here. I put the little Yachtwin in the barrel and got it going. It took a little while, because I found out the carb needed some TLC. I had to replace the gasket between the bowl and upper half and the float needle. Sometimes when rubber gets old, it gets soft and swells up. I'm going to put a new impeller in it, because the one in it, is pretty old. Awesome running little motor though and the lower unit is in great shape. No leaks. Great oil.
