Ok here's some photos of the water intake hose i'm refering to in my previous post, maybe this will help you understand why I'm not real worried about the patch comming off, even if it did that little split in the hose didn't effect anything before, I don't think the hose sees much pressure it may see a little suction. it just leads to the intake screeen on the lower unit I think, the lower patch on the hose is just there to add protection from where at full left turn it rubs a little, you can see on the top patch where it was the steel cable that did the damage.

Ayuh,...........

Now instead of Sounding like a Recipe for Disaster,........
It Looks like a Recipe for Disaster........

If your raw water pump is in the Drive,..... That'll be seeing up to 15psi......

If your raw water pump is engine mounted,..... It'll be sucking Air instead of Water.........
'course, it'll be flooded when at trolling speeds,+ won't be a Problem til you get on Plane......

Exactly! thing is the raw water is pumping engine pump is pulling only when stat is open, I wonder which one wins probaly the engine's pump. Anyhow I did reposition the cable it's correct now, (as you can see in the photo) previously someone had it wacked out and that's why it cut the hose.

OK, I was inside the boat, and you are outside the boat. Not a sinking risk. I'd probably still replace it soon though, perhaps over the winter.

Ayuh,.........
thing is the raw water is pumping

ALL of the Time,.........

It has Nothing to do with the circulating pump, nor the T-Stat.......
When the T-Stat is closed,+ not accepting water from the raw water pump,....
It's flow is run thru the Manifolds,+ out the risers..............

You should carry some buckets on board. If you fix something, do it right the first time, replace the hose.

Have a great day,

Seriously, how much does a hose cost? Probably cost as much to patch it. Here's the thing; one thing I've learned on this board, listen to the folks that have been doing this longer than I've been alive. I recommend the same. That hose should be replaced...

Limited-time, can't type while I'm laughing. Whatever you do, don't ask a70eliminator to borrow one!! Great response!! But seriously, fix it right.

Have a great day,

Re: a picture worth a thousand words

For the simple reason that the Volvo raw water pumps are engine driven, that little slit will cause more problems than it would on an Alpha drive. Like Bondo said at trolling speed the slit would be submirsed in water and not cause an issue but at planing speed it would suck air, basically starving the engine of cooling water. This can/does causes overheating and premature wear on the raw water pump impeller. That hose could cost as much as a complete engine under the right circumstances.

There are some things that should not be repaired, but replaced, and IMO, thats one of em.
