 Maybe I just jumped in too soon? I got a helluva deal on a 1985 (??) Mercury 7.5 outboard for $300 with tank. It runs grea, looks good, t and I was going to put it on my Antigua 18T as a kicker.
PROBLEM:: I dont see anywhere to connect remote cables for throttle and shift or a remote steering connection.
Are these now hidden or is there an add-on? Maybe they went electric??
Is it just me or is life getting tougher for do it yourselfers? No one builds things much anymore, it is hard to get parts for projects.

You more than likely need whats known as a remote control kit. Right now i suspect its a tiller steer and hand pull to start.

Re: A pig in a poke?

your base plate under the cowl has locations and hold-downs for the cables

you have to remove the tiller arm. there are two threaded bosses under the tiller arm bracket. that is for the steering bracket to bolt on.

the shift cable goes to the lever inside the cowling on the starboard side and bolts to the lever that is there, the throttle goes on the port side. there is a linkage that comes with the kit. however your best bet will be to probably make the parts as I believe they are NLA. you can check on Ebay and the parts come up every once in a while.

if you decide to go electric start, the kit is NLA as well.

I can take pics of my '84 9.8 and indicate where everything runs if you need (I currently have the motor on a stand). just send me a PM with your email to remind me.
