In a previous reply to someone with a bad idle problem, you said "Its time to clean the carbs and put a kit into it."<br /><br />What sort of kit do you mean? Is it a straight forward job balancing/ tuning the carbs afterwards?

Re: A question for Trent

If your talking outboard...<br /><br />Depends on where you get the kit as to whats included. Aftermarket kits dont always have everything (but usually enough to get the job done) I perferr to install needle and seats and gaskets. Most idle problem are from blocked (or dirty) idle jets. You will notice it "lean sneezing" most of the time. You will need to put the boat in the water and in gear to properly set the idle mixture and speed after its warmed up. You can get close on the hose but not like it should be (real world conditions). The job is easy most of the time (at least to me) Hard part sometimes is getting the carbs off the engine. Several ways to "balance" your carbs. Depends on your setup. Most are straight foward. I suggest a manual.

Re: A question for Trent

Thanks for your prompt reply. The engine is a 80hp 3cyl Mercury (1989). I've got a service manual which is excellent for dismantling / re-assembling parts but doesn't seem too hot on carb set up. I've checked the Mercury parts list and they don't seem to do a carb repair kit. Do you know if any other company sells repair kits. I live in Scotland (UK) where the choice of parts outlets is extremely limited. Your help is appreciated.
