Is there a difference between the 91-60526 shim tool and a 91-854377 tool. I am currently changing seals on a 1998+ gen 2 upper and I am checking the shimming just because and trying to use the 60526 tool which will not bottom out to the gear. No shims still installed. I was wondering if the other tool was longer or something. When I looked an the special tools list in my cd catoalog (thanks ebay) it showed both tools for the job?. Any help would be appreciated thanks

If your just doing the seals there is no reason to have a shim gauge.

I am checking the shimming just because

Although you do set your gear heights with the shim rig, you check the height (or shimming) via backlash with a dial indicator.

Your drive should use the newer tool.
Look at your SN and compare to this.

Thanks everyone, did not realize that the tool changed on the later models. When ever I do one of these drives I usually check everything, including the backlash because you are right, just because you found it that way does not make it right. If you make it right it will last. Thanks again everyone who responded.
