I found a boat that I might be interested in, but the guy says this about the motor "Boat engine needs work (4.3 Cobra 6 cylinder with power steering) .I backed in on the ramp at lake and running engine and checking it out, when I noticed lower unit gear oil going into breather and shut motor off.The motor will still start and run fine then gear oil starts going into engine." Not sure if the block is cracked or what is happening but if anyone knows what it would take to fix this I can get the boat pretty cheap. Thanks for any help........Blake

Gear oil can not get into the engine like that. Why do you think it's gear oil. If it's a milky color, it's probably water in the engine oil........ Cracked block on the engine.

Do you mean motor oil from the engine getting into the breather?

An OMC Cobra is no longer made nor fully supported with parts/service. That alone would make me think twice.

I am not at all wrong. Did I say you couldn't find them? I said they were not FULLY supported with parts/service. I chose that sentence carefully when passing that info on. It is a fact that there are mechanics that won't work on them and that some parts are not available.

Didn't mean to offend but my son just bought an older boat with that drive and I told him the same thing. He proved me wrong has had in for a service and we have 3 guys in business for over 20 yrs each that are glad to work on them. they are the ones that set me straight and told parts are easy to get.

Then you are in a good part of the country to own one, or at least your son is..Many arent as "lucky"

I wonder what the $$$ premium is over OMC parts (when available) vs VERY readily available Merc parts...

I would never spend a dime on a boat with an OMC drive personally.

I also would never recommend an OMC drive for a new boat owner either..easy way to get discouraged and give up the ship..lol
