I had a double shot of stupidity yesterday.

When launching, I backed up into the water, but the boat wouldn't budge. Hmmm, need to go deeper. Went till the exhaust pipe was under water, almost stalled it. Something wrong... Oh yea, THE TRANSOM STRAPS!!!!!

Then while retrieving, got boat on trailer, and was pulling out of water. Hmm, seems too easy. Whats that noise? WHOOPS! Forgot to lock the winch! Boat half on trailer, half on the ramp. Backed up trailer a bit, and then winched boat back on trailer. Luckily no damage.

The only disappointment was the lack of an audience, cept for the wife and kids.

First time out this year, hopefully I reached my stupidity quota.

Ken

If that is as bad as it gets for you this year consider it a very successful season. The good thing about having trouble on the ramp is you can always walk away, which is more than you can do out on the water when something happens!

A bloke dropped a 16 - 17' cuddy cab completely off a tilt trailer at my concrete ramp this weekend, about 10' away from the water. I've never seen a quarter that many people on the jetty or the ramp on the busiest day. Must be a jungle telegraph that notifies everyone as soon as something interesting happens.

They hauled it back on the trailer by winching it on while driving the trailer under it. Ground the gelcoat on the keel very nicely. I was going to suggest putting it back into the water on rollers and just reloading it normally to save damage to the keel, but the experts from the marina were directing rescue operations so I shut up.

KenImpZoom
Done the same when I first started boating. But was not fortunate enough to have an audiance. Arent you lucky, since your wife was there, you will allways have some one to remind you of your competance, especially if you want to buy a larger boat, or some fool thing like that. Be happy, enjoy life and go boating lots. Batavier

Hey Ken, I haven't put mine in the water yet this season (gotta my fishin' lic. first!), but I know I'm gonna do something that will out do you! Last season when I was first experimenting with using my trolling while throwing my cast net for bait, on the fourth or fifth try I managed to run over the net with the trolling motor! I calmly anchored and spent an hour or so untangling he mess. Yes, there were some spectators. Thank the Lord my net was not damaged, nor was the motor.
