As some of you may know, here in Bastrop County we had the biggest wildfire in Texas history. On 9/4/11, I was called into work (Deputy Sheriiff) early to help the day shift out with a brush fire. By the time I had got to the fire, approx 30 miles from my house, the fire was already knocking on my back door. Had no time to get anything from the house except what I left with which was my uniform and patrol car. I couldn't go back home to try to save anything due to us having to evacuate as many people as we could. After a 16 hour night, my wife (then fiance), daughter, and I went to a friend's house to stay for the night. When I got up at noon, we snuck back to our house and found this.

Picture013-1.jpg

That was the Cummins 12 valve hooked to my 21 foot Sea Ray ski boat. You can see the front of my 14 ft aluminum boat with the 9.9. Johnson. The front is all thats left. I also had a '73 Johnson 40 hp that I was working on in the shed which also burned. I've never been without a boat before so I'm trying to find just any cheap aluminum boatt and motor lol. Amazingly this was sitting less than 20 feet from the house, and our house did not burn. The fire literally singed the bottom of our house, but it did not catch fire. We had all our days off taken away and worked 12 hours everyday for the next month constantly being yelled at by citizens. It was hell. I've NEVER seen anything like it. The fire burned more then 30,000 acres. All the houses around ours, including neighbors houses are gone. We got lucky. I just lost 2 boats, the truck, and my tool shed. The bad part was we didn't have renters insurance but I had full coverage on the truck. I had more pictures on my other phone but I ran over it thr other day lol. I'll have more that I'll get off my wife's phone to post up.

Oh yeah, this all happened on the 4th...our wedding day was on the 10th. They actually let me off for the wedding AND the honeymoon!! I told them that I WAS getting married no mattter what! The weding went perfectly too!

Congratulations on the wedding! I'm very sorry to hear about the lost you and your neighbors suffered. I thank you for the service you provide for citizens. I understand it is very trying and thankless at times. My son is a state trooper. I am glad you and your family are safe and your home was spared.

Congratulations on your marriage.

Like everyone else, I'm kinda' awestruck. What do you say to something like you've experienced? Texas has had a hard year all around, prayers and best wishes to you.

You can see the boats better in this video. The Sea Ray is the same on in my Avatar parked in pretty much the same spot. Also I guess the lower unit and mid section of the '73 Johnson 40 hp wasn't metal because it's nowhere to be found, unlike the 9.9 Johnson which is intact at least.

Re: A sad day...my boats and truck died

well... i got a couple of things to say to you.

first off......our area gets hit by wild fires most years....in 2003, we had a major called the oknagan mountain park fire......largest fire evacuation in canadain history 125k people evacuated if i remember correctly. over 250 homes burned to the ground...people were evacuated for weeks.

the fire-fighters were the heroes.....the cops were the bad guys.

the cops drove up and down the streets....just blocks from a true fire storm....banging on doors, yelling, screeming...telling people to get out....the fire storm, getting close...very close very fast....(they move incredibly fast)
people argued with the cops.....telling them that they were going to stay. the cops got yelled at.....sworn at....and sometimes much worse.

the people were too selfish to realize the cops were risking their live to save ours.

sorry for the insults and shouting......sorry bout the truck (i have the same 12 valve and love it) and sorry bout the boats.

thank you for your service and dedication, and congratulations on your marriage.

Congrats on your wedding........Sorry for the loss.....Will your boat insurance cover the Sea Ray? My worst fear is the barn burning down where I store the Coronado.....I'd be sick to my stomach.

Glad everyone's alright.

Thats the bad part. I bought it for about $3k or so and never dreamed I'd need insurance, so never got. Kicking myself for it now. Thanks again everyone for the kind words.

First, thanks for all you do. Unfortunately, sometimes in this life, no good deed goes unpunished!

Sorry about your financial losses, but happy about your long term success in getting married. There will be more boats in your future, I am sure.

Well I think I just found my next project. An '84 Checkmate with a 4.3 that runs for literally next to nothing. I'm going to check it out tomorrow. I'm excited to just think about having a boat again! lol

Don't know if this is Kosher or not... moderator??

But... could we get things rolling to donate some money to help out? I don't have much, but $5 here $20 there from enough people could go a long ways, or at least help.

Am I outta line?
