A simple oil ratio question

Time for an oil argument. Here goes. if your non-injected 125hp Outboard (boat from manufacturer with motor) calls for 50-1, and you spend 90% of your time at 3700rpm instead of 5200, and run 40-1, are you getting a better mix (a little heavy) which should be better as 3/4 throttle does not give as much gas/oil. I should say that I have been doing this for 10 years already in my 20 footer with no problems, and I do punch it often too. It just a gas saver at 3500-3700, and WOT is a bank breaker. Take it away......

Your getting a richer oil mix which is better than a too lean one for sure.May tend to wet foul the plugs a little more in some engines but if yours runs well without excessive coking or plug fouling, then 40:1 is fine.Have you ever ran at 50:1?

Probably get better responce in the outboard area.
Some oil injected units reduce the mix to 100 to 1 for low rpms. For WOT they go to 50 to 1. Many I know that use motor only for trolling all day and never open it up use 75 to 1 to prevent plugs from fouling and less unburned oil in the water. I on the other hand mix for 50 to 1 then add just a little to be sure.

Actually cost your more to run motor at 40 to 1. As the oil cost a lot more per gallon than the gas.

Sure, its just that I run fill my remote 6 gallon tanks with 14oz, actually just a little heavy. The amount involved is minuscule in the long run, and on the oil costing more than gas, right, but you use so little it doesn't even figure in. And now that I mull over this silly question of mine, I probably should do the opposite...run LESS oil for LESS rpm...old salty dog just learned a new trick I think. I'm fine until I start thinking! Just so we're on the same page and you get the info you're after ,if you have 6 gallons of fuel in your remote tank and add 14 oz of TCW3 ,that would be roughly a 55:1 ratio mix.A 40:1 mix in the six gallons of fuel would require about 19 oz. of TCW3.I'm sorta picky when I mix and go exactly 50:1 and use 16oz. in 6.25 gallons of fuel.If I buy the quarts of TCW3 ,I add 1 quart in 12.5 gallons.Cheers. :)
