OK so, My 150 is painted Evinrude color. Has an Evinrude cover. I wanted to buy a factory manual so I checked the plate on the transom bracket. J150TLCTB. '83 Johnson right? HMMMM. Some one here on the forum told me ( sorry I don't remember who but REALLY apreciate it ) to look above the port bank on the block for a round tag the sze of a quarter. I found it E150TXCOS '85 Evinrude? Question is what manual should I get? Rather not buy 2 if I don't have to. Can any one tell me anything else about the motor based on these #'s. Other than the obvious Frankenstien thing.......

Looks like your motor started life as a '83 Johnson, blew a powerhead, which was replaced with a '85 Evinrude powerhead. I would get a parts list for both, since the LU parts may be different ( a dealer may be able to help here) and a shop manual for an '85.

Or,Began its life as a 85 Evinrude and had the T/T unit replaced from a 83'Johnson.If you're going to get just one manual, get the one that matches the #'s from the block.

Thanks guys. That's pretty much what I figure. can anyone help me with the model #'s? It's a long shaft motor and the powerhead has/had VRO. Just trying to narrow down what I have. By the way under the navy blue evinrude paint on the lower unit and exhaust housing Some white Johnson looking paint is showing through a couple scratches.

Your years are correct. The Johnson model number denotes tilt and trim electric start and 20 " shaft. The Evinrude model number denotes tilt/trim electric start and 25" shaft. From you're final description of the exposed paint on exhaust housing ,I 'd tend to lean with WildeOne and say it began its life as a 83' Johnson 150.
