A way to stop dry rot?

I recently had to have extensive repairs done to my house because of termite damage. In the course of talking to the pest control people--and my research on the internet, I came across a product called "Tim-Bor" which is a borax based powder (remember Boraxo soap?) which is mixed with water and sprayed on new or old wood to prevent termite infestation. The data sheet claims that it also kills the spoors that cause dry rot.

According to the MSDS the stuff is pretty harmless. I was wondering if it could have a use in transom or deck cores as well.

http://www.doyourownpestcontrol.com/timbor1.htm

Any thoughts?

Tony

I can attest to the validity of Tim-Bor, my family owns a pest control company and I worked for them for years growing up. We used Tim-Bor on rotting wood on log homes and decks. It works very well, the only thing I dont know is how well Resin will stick to the wood after it has been treated with the chemical.

I use Tim-Bor solufied as a liquid for new constuction preteats for carpenter ants, and injected in wall voids in its powder form in post-construction treatments for carpenter ants. It is a good product, works very well. Couldn't tell you if there could be bonding issues or not, but you really have to soak the wood with the solufied product to get it to soak in.

Trisodiumoctiborate (or Borate) is the active ingredient, very safe, and one of the oldest known pesticides

(I am an exterminator)
