Abaco Scout...Anyone have one or heard of them?

I am considering an Abaco Scout but have never heard of them and do not know anyone with one, has anyone heard of them? I've read the reviews and manufacturer literature, but that stuff never tells the whole story, I always trust an owner before I'll trust a magazine review.

The Abaco is a model in Scout's Express line of boats (probably not news to you). I have a Dorado 170 dual console (their Fish & Ski line).

While my boat is considerably smaller than the Abaco -- I can tell you after three seasons of ownership that I'm mightily impressed by Scout's build quality and factory support. I like the Yamaha engines too (although have to admit it's my first 4-stroke, so I'm comparing to mid-eighties 2-stroke smokers.)

I think Scout is overall quite well regarded in the industry (no wood, 100% hand laid, top quality hardware, yada, yada) and I'd encourage you to get out on the water in one to see for yourself.

I scoured North America for mine as new was out of the price range and they are quite rare in Canada. In the end I was impressed enough to fly down to North Carolina, rent a truck to trailer it the thousand miles home. Well, I call it being impressed...my wife has other names for it...

Ya, ya -- get off the fence and get an opinion, I know:D

Diesel, I saw your other post and have looked at the boat you are considering. Nice ride... Cabin looks quite well deckout at as well. Wish I could afford one.

As for the Scout, I agree, they are a name very well reguarded in the industry. Here is the link to the Scout website for their current 295AB. It is 30' in length.

Here is a link to the JD Power ratings for boat manufactures. Granted, these are for the 2009 model year and this is for Coastal Fishing boats, not Express Cabins, but you can guage them against other brands...

I do not know anyong with a Scout, but I have seen several on the water and they are nice looking boats, apprear to be very well made and they have nice lines...

Good Luck

That's a really sharp boat you have there, had to keep looking at the picture to figure out if its a ski boat or a fishing boat, really like the OB option. I still don't think I would drive 1000 miles for it, but I can see why someone would.

Thanks for everyone's feedback, the one I am looking at seemed a bit pricey for a name brand I had never heard of, but its loaded with electronics and has the motors I am looking for.

I guess I need to get off the couch and actually go see the boat, forums and feedback will only get you so far :). Unfortunately the seller is pretty far from the water so it looks like if I get it I won't get a sea trial beforehand.
