Re: ac output

What year motor? It would be easier to check your rectifier output. If you have 13-14VDC at 2K RPM, then your AC is good. AC is produced by the stator.

Re: ac output

i have been told it is a 1978 model 4cyl , i have put in a new rectifier and it still shows 12.4vdc , is there a way to check the stator ?

Re: ac output

12.4 volts is too low. You should have at least 18 volts AC on the input side of the rectifier.

Where are you checking the output? At the battery or at the rectifier? With good connections they should be within a couple of tenths of a volt of each other. If the output is higher at the rectifier than at the battery, you have a bad connection between the battery and the rectifier. (Check those grounds)

We are assuming you have a fully charged battery to start with. This type of charging system can only supply 10-15 amps. If you're starting with a discharged battery, it will take a long time for the charge voltage to rise. If you have the proper test equipment, you can mesure how much current is flowing between the rectifier and the battery. If working, the rectifier will be providing current (10-15 amps) to the battery.

Re: ac output

have checked it at battery and rectifier, the reading is similar mabe just a tenth or so beetween them, the rectifier its self when not having the batter feed attached only puts out 0.3 vdc

Re: ac output

would like to add that if i was to attach my ohm meter to the 2 ends of the 2 yellow wires would this tell me if the stator is ok ?

Re: ac output

If the rectifier only puts out 0.3 volts without the battery attached it's not working.

Measuring with an ohmmeter would be an indicator. You should have continuity betweeen the two yellow wires and open to ground.

You can replace the rectifier with a Radio Shack full wave bridge rectifier.
