Dear All,

I have a 20HP Merc Blueband from 79-80.

The reverse lock link rod has either snapped or jumped out of the cam. How do I get to the system so that I can either repair or replace it.

Can I get to the reverse lock cam by removing the engine from the transom mount or is this impossible!

I missed last season due to problems with the engine and I am desperate to get on the water this year, any help would be appreciated.

If it's the same system as the 700 -77 You can access the cam by lowering the gearhouse. Originally there is a plastic cam, replacement is aluminum. It is not likely that the rod has snapped, but if You take the lock-hook system apart You will be áble to pull out the rod. As I said - if it's the same mechanism as on my 700.
