Can't seem to access other parts of website, SO, will ask here. Need to replace thermostat on 200 hp merc. out board. Need to know where it is on engine, Is it something I can replace? is there torque -foot pounds-inch pounds, involved? When i first run it up,the buzzer goes off, "low oil or over heat" guage reads 3/4 hot, then drops to 3/8s, then guage varies before opening and closing

Re: access

I don't work on Mercs but would suggest you get a manual, it will have all that info in it, a good manual pays for itself the first time you use it.

Re: access

There should be two, one on each side at the top of the cylinders.
I do Mercs, but the biggest and newest has been a late 80's 150 V6. I play mostly with 2 cylinders and the occassional tower and 3 cylinder.
I'm assuming it's the same setup - a year would help.

Re: access

I'll go ahead and move it over to the Merc forum for you, then you can still access it from this forum, but you will get answers from the Merc forum.
Have you gone to the forum index and clicked on the forum you want? Here is a link to it.

Re: access

A more descreptive title will get you the most responces...

Everytime you deal with a motor there are torque measurements that need to be followed. Get the book, iboats sells them here.... Not really hard, done it in 3 other motors. Make sure you label any wires you disconnect. I keep small foam bowls, like the one for eating soup, to put the bolts and any hardware. I generally use a different bowl as I go do a different part of the motor. Example, all lower unit connecting bolts/hardware in one bowl, water pump bolts/hardware in another... If I am not putting them back together that same day I will write in the bowl where the hardware is coming from. Sometimes photos help a lot. I used to take them and never use them until I took one motor apart and I had a hard time getting some springs the right way...

good luck.
