LMAO!

Okay, I started painting the Master Bath this afternoon. I want to say a big THANK YOU for those who offered such great advice on my prior thread when I painted the Guest Bath.

This time, I cut the ceiling in FIRST! Ta daaa! LOL!

And actually, I cut in all around the ceiling with my little roller and brush, not just small areas where I was working at the moment. Then I went back and hit the entire ceiling with the big roller and the job went very quickly. Yes! Progress is GOOD!

The ceiling is drying now and I'll get in there in a few minutes and start taping off the mirror and counters, etc. so that I can start painting the walls.

Should be a much "smoother" job this time! :D

Re: Ach! I'm at it again!

Well, it went FAST this time! Pretty much all done already!

Taped everything off and started rolling the paint on. In what seemed like no time, I'd covered everything the big roller could reach. Then I grabbed the tiny roller and continued until everything that little dude could reach was painted. Then came the trim brush.

And a funny thing happened this time. As I started touching up the edges with the brush, I "got" how to roll a bead of paint and cut in the ceiling line! All right! Whoever told me how to do that in the prior thread... I owe ya a beer! :D

So everything is painted and the ceiling is cut in as well. I do have to go back and re-cut with ceiling white where I got a little too wide with the touchup brush, but overall, I'm a happy camper!

More pix after all the paint dries.

Yeah... it's sad, isn't it? LOL! :D

My 21 y.o. daughter is coming down from up north next week for spring break. She did that 2 years ago and helped me primer the whole house... which is what is STILL on the walls except for the 2 bathrooms! Don't want her to beat me up too bad about not getting things done in a timely fashion. Heh heh.

I'm planning on painting the guest bedroom in the next week or so. She'll be staying in there while here and I need to be the good daddy and take care o' bidness! LOL

Here's a pic of the painted master bath. Tomorrow I'll start on doing the baseboard and trim.

When your washing out your roller and brushes, I always add a bit of dish detergent and slightly rinse. Then before using it again, I rinse the brush/roller with fresh water then wring them out to get as much water as possible. The soap helps prevent any left over paint from adhering to the bristles preventing them from sticking together. This has always helped me from buying new each time I would go to paint.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind when I do the guest room.

who washes that stuff out, I just tie a rope around them and drag them behind the boat for an afternoon on the water, always come out clean as a whistle

Looks good BWR,now for that bedroom (if painting ceilings) dropcloth entire floor.cut in to the wall first(don't worry about getting ceiling paint on the wall)then roll it out, now the walls get 4x15 dropcloth(or 2 so you can do 2 walls at a time)cut in to the ceilings 3 inches down the wall, corners and at the base all 3 inches out and up next roll walls use a lambskin cover 3/4 or 1/2 a bit pricey but quick clean up and you won't have to use your boat to clean it:D next run your trim and you are done. Before you apply any paint make sure you prep the walls i.e nail holes etc. Painting 101 always work with gravity :D

Here are the pix of the completed job. Yes, I decorated both bathrooms in the same scheme. Nothing wrong with OD green & black for a bachelor, right? :D

I learned more on this job and will use that knowledge as I move forward with the other rooms in the house.

Okay... looks like I'm gonna have to buy more dropcloths. I just have a single 9 x 12 plastic jobby. Yes, I'll be painting ceilings as well as the walls.

...cut in to the ceilings 3 inches down the wall, corners and at the base all 3 inches out and up...
I'm not exactly sure what you mean here. Can you clarify for me?

I have a few rollers left and will probably use those rather than spending more money. I will say that the 3/4" nap rollers that I've used thus far soak up a LOT of paint and also tend to leave "light" spots on the wall. That might be my technique though.

I have a trio of 3/8" rollers and a single 1/2" roller leftover so far. The Valspar paint I'm using seems to work very well and flows on nicely. Would these smaller nap rollers be okay?

Thanks!

Re: Ach! I'm at it again!

Sure,3 inches is usually the with of the brush if you cut in first and roll into the cut in area (top sides and bottoms) it looks better. As for the room and it's ceiling we move all the movable stuff out cut in around light(if there is one) put the bed in the middle of the room use that plastic drop over the bed and maybe another for the dresser than dropcloth along the walls I would use canvas than cut ceiling to the wall and roll the ceiling, then you are ready for the walls.
The blends always suck up the paint, they hold about a quart of paint in them. The light spots are most likely from a combination of things 1) it has probably been a while since the walls have been painted.2) heat and cool drys out the walls causing the to suck up paint 3)you might be stretching the paint a tad to far. Try this when rolling the wall go from ceiling to base making a M on the wall not being any wider than your shoulders then go back into it. I also like the 3/4 cover. And here will be your word of the day (HOLIDAYS) Don't leave any holidays. :D:D I know I hear you saying what the heck is a holiday --------------missed spot(paint talk):D good luck

Re: Ach! I'm at it again!

Got it. I'll do that.

Now I'm thinking that I'll leave off the 1" baseboard over the carpeted areas in the house. Maybe. There are no gaps between the bottom of the wall and the carpeting, so I'm thinkin' that it might look okay.

Long story - my place is a 2007 double-wide with sheetrock walls. However, the company gave me the 1" baseboard and trim to go with paneled walls instead of 2 1/2" trim for sheetrock. When I asked them to replace the trim, they wanted another $500 because they said it was an "option" and that I could just use the smaller trim instead! GRRRR!!

Obviously, I chose not to spend the extra bucks.

I'll still do the door trim though.

Whaddya think?

Re: Ach! I'm at it again!

Leave off ? does that mean take off that baseboard? if that is a yes my answer is no because there will be a gap 1) where the wall meets the floor will not be perfect 2)your carpet or vinyl or wood will be short.Even small baseboard you can paint to make the room look bigger. To keep the paint off the flooring use cardboard between the base and the floor when painting the base (the base is the last thing you do) Talk to you tomorrow good luck:D

Re: Ach! I'm at it again!

Yes, that means no baseboard. At this time, the ONLY place in the house where I have baseboard is in the bathrooms and I added it myself during this painting process. I'll have to add it in the kitchen when I get that far.

I had the carpeting installed 2 years ago WITHOUT any baseboard in place, so the carpet is snug up against the wall. Haven't found any place where there is a visible gap showing the bottom of the drywall, except in the kitchen and bathrooms over the vinyl flooring. There are a couple places where there is no primer, but I can add that as well.

Here are some pix. It's pretty much the same throughout the house. If I can leave the baseboard off, it'll save a TON of work and a bunch of aggravation.

Hmmm... I hadn't noticed the cobwebs! LOL! I bet if I had a woman living here that she'd tell me about those PRONTO! :D

Whew! Glad to hear that I can skip the baseboard! That's great news.

I'm about 85 miles south of Ocala. If you ever get down to visit your folks there, let me know and I'll buy ya that beer!

As for me becoming a pro painter... it AIN'T gonna happen! LOL! :D
