Read your thread on building a low water pressure alarm.
Not 100% sure I am going to wire one in on our Baja..I rum a water pressure gauge and keep pretty close tabs on it....

But I got to thinking....

I am running pretty close to the ragged edge with our setup (385 stroker, 10.65:1 compression, 14 degrees advanced base timing .... 93 octane for me). I have a fuel pressure gauge mounted on AN line from pump to carb, but it doesn't do me much good when we are running.

In the back of my mind I have worried about a restricted fuel flow leaning the engine out and ...... well, you know. Would not take much for a bad filter, bunch of garbage in the tank, or pump headed south to really cause me troubles.

My gauge suppler (SS Competition) doen't not offer a electric fuel pressure gauge, and they don't have another gauge of suitable pressure range to rename and use.

I think I will wire up a Low Fuel Pressure Alarm similar to your low water pressure alarm.
I will add a relay to the circut for a warning light on the instrument panel too.

Just might save the engine some day.

Thanks for giving me the idea!

No, not in the least.
Do you read my post?

I am interested in a FUEL PRESSURE alarm.

I like AChris's idea, too, especially how easy it would be to tie into the mercruiser warning system.

Bomar, Do you have electric or mechanical fuel pump? The former is probably easier to profile and pick the warning threshold pressures. The mechanical might be a little more "fun" dealing with rpm under load, vs idle.

Also, does your ignition have any knock protection, like Thunderbolt V?

PS: Post your progress. It sounds like an interesting little project.

I was talking about a LOW water pressure alarm or gage. :D

I don't know how many people get towed in because the raw pump won't move enough water and either get overheats the engine or completely toasts the rubber exhaust parts etc...

It's no longer a project...we have 2 years on that engine in front of an Alpha GenII
We are 460 HP or so at 5500 rpm.....and the torque is right up there too

Running a stock Merc mechanical pump.

TB IV ignition, so no knock protection.....I read the plugs quite often looking for detonation.

I don't wish to wire it into the Merc alarm, I want a distinct tone for low fuel pressure.

Well, I think that would be a GREAT project! But, I was refering to the fuel pressure monitor. Maybe "very small" in relation to the engine. I am curious to what the trip point will be and if it will have issues with false alarms, etc. Thx.

Just off the top of my head I am thinking of a 4 psi trip.....
