all BS between us needs to be put to rest! I respect your input most of all above everyone else. I have been wrong and now I'm in a pickle........

My dad has a '94 Mercury Black Max 150 that is a 2.0

A couple of years ago the impeller failed and it overheated causing all engine electrical and harness to burn. NOT pretty! A car mechanic friend of his attempted to rewire everything and using a Seloc manual they replaced the waterpump and impeller. They tested using the muffs and it worked fine. No overheating they could find using an infrared heat gun. Then a couple of weeks later while running at trolling speed at the lake it began to smoke and dad shut it down.....it hasn't been run in 2 years since!

I have a complete Engine harness for a '78 Mercury 150, am I correct in thinking this will not work?

Where can I find a new, complete engine harness for his '94? What else should I look for besides replacing the engine harness?

Thanks

I find it hard to believe that an engine overheat burned up the wiring, w/o trashing the moving parts of the motor. It sounds like you had a short or a voltage requlator meltdown.

I would get on the Crowleymarine.com web site and get the part number for the wiring harness. Look it up on the web and find the best price. If you can get ahold of a wiring diaghram for the '78 and your motor, the older harness might work OK, but it will not mate with the boat harness. Some splicing will make it work. The wiring colors have changed as well since 1978.
