In order to use an emulator for a sonar on www.lowrance.com either Active X Control "Install Shield Wizard" or their "Stand Alone Installer" must be downloaded. A warning window appears indicating that harm might done to the computer using either. Is this just a precaution that Microsoft takes?. I have a new computer and do not want problems. Just would like to know if these are safe to use. Have a new Lowrance sonar that I would like to use their emulator to learn as much as possible before installing on boat.
Please feel free to reply. Thanks

Re: Active X Control

Microsoft has some kind of certification process for software that will use their Windows. I don't know if they charge a fee for this certification to the developer but it wouldn't surprise me. Many developers don't bother and if you trust them go ahead and install.

On the Lowrance - I bought one a year ago (and installed the emulator with no problems). Mine is the color chartplotter LMS 332C. The emulator is great and I have been very satisfied with my unit.

Re: Active X Control

activeX is a "program" language used to do things in Internet explorer. The reason it asks you is that any modification being done to IE microsoft asks you if you are really sure that you want to do it. If you are not installing something and this pops up you want to answer NO. early versions of IE did not ask you and it was virus heaven for awhile.

since you are installing a program I would answer yes.
