And get the new .def file for it also, just copy it into the folder where the old one is!

rwise, what's the deal on the .def file? Doesn't it come with the new download? Where do you find it?

Just use the auto update built into it.
I read that there was a newer version, but haven't used it yet.

Love adaware. The only one I use.

Take a look at a program called spybot. I like it more than ad-aware, and it is free also.

Just do a search for spybot to find it.

Downloading it now, as I have nothing else to do while Francis tries to blow off the roof.

It works great! Much better than SpyBot.

Try booting in safe mode, then go in a delete it manually. Things won't delete if they are "in use". Post a note if it works.

BTW, I use AdAware and Spybot. They each find different things. You need a Popup blocker too. That is how a lot of this stuff gets into your computer.

Xcuseme, why do you suppose that my current Adaware does not show up in Add/Remove programs? Should I just manually delete it?

adaware used in conjunction with Spybot S&D works well for me here.

The new adaware se needs to have any old ones deleted. If not in your uninstall then go to my computer, programs if that is where it was installed(otherwise will need to do a search and find out where it was put) and you should have an uninstall file there. If not just delete and then download the new adaware se.
I deleted the old then added the new. Once done it worked fine and can then do any of the add ons. I use ad-aware and spybot both.

Thanks telmanmn, I did it. AW 6.0 checks about 45000 objects, the new SE checked 105000. It found things AW6.0 did not.

Re: Ad-Aware...New Free Version !

Boomyal,
Sorry I couldn't get back to you sooner, I was out of town over the weekend. Glad you got things sorted out. Usually if there's no uninstall, I'll blow away the sub-folder that the program resides and then use System Mechanic to go and clean up the registry for the loose ends. I find that a lot of programs won't 'un-install' entirely even if they DO have an uninstaller. They leave little registry entries and dll files lying about etc. These bits can accumulate and over time cause problems, thus the name "Dirty Windows"
